Den Leaders

Den Leader Resources

Thank you for volunteering to be a den leader! Scouts BSA has an incredible variety of resources for you to ensure you and your scouts have a great time.

What Den Leaders Do

  • Lead or delegate den meeting lesson plans (8 total)
  • Create a den meeting schedule for the school year (8 total)
  • Support pack leadership with pack meetings and events
  • Complete appropriate training
  • Attend parent meetings

Training

  • Scouts BSA provides on-line training for den leaders. The training gives confidence to new den leaders and ensures Scouts BSA guidelines and safety requirements are met. Click here to access den leader training.

Delegating

  • Many hands make for light work. Den leaders are encouraged to reach out to parents in their den to assist or lead a den lesson plan. At least one fully trained den leader must be present for each meeting, plus at least one more YPT trained parent age 21 or older.

Den Leader Guides

  • Den leader guides come in two types, essentially more detail (leader guide) and less detail (addendums).
    • Leader Guides provide easy, pre-packaged meeting plans with games, tools and ideas. Here is an example.
    • Addendums provide a quick summary of requirements.
  • Hard copies are available for purchase at the Scout Shop. Also we try to reuse leader guides, so if you’d like, please hand your “old” guide to this year’s new den leader, and request your “new” guide from last year’s den leader.
  • Please contact the Cubmaster if you have any questions!
